Dennis Alfred Claud Jarvis was captured by the Japanese following the fall of Singapore on 15 February 1942. He was transported to Kobe PoW camp in Japan where he died on 12 March 1945. His name is added in pencil to the Woking County School memorial order of service kept in the Surrey History Centre. 

After the war Dennis’ body was taken to America for burial and he was laid to rest in St. Louis (Jefferson Barracks) National Cemetery in Missouri (Sec. 82 Coll. grave 1B, 1C, 1D).

Roll of Honour: Ian Jenkins

Ian Walter Jenkins was the son of James and Eileen Jenkins of Addlestone.

Ian was killed on a training exercise aboard a Tiger Moth (DE215) 25 June 1945 in the Lake District. Ian was navigator but was given unauthorised control of the aircraft by the pilot. The aircraft crashed into Ulleswater during a low pass when its wheels touched the water. The pilot survived.

Ian’s body was never recovered. He was just 21 years old.

A board of enquiry criticised the unit for its failures including not removing the control column from the navigators seat.

Ian Jenkins has no known grave and is remembered on the Air Force Memorial, Runnymede, Surrey (panel 275) and on the Woking County Grammar School roll of honour located in Christ Church, Woking.

Roll of Honour: Bradford Dockerty

Bradford Dockerty was born in 1923, the son of Mr and Mrs A. H. Dockerty of Send, Surrey.

Bradford left the County School in 1933 while in the second year.

Before the war Bradford was an active member of Send Air Training Corps. Only months before his death he married F. E. C. Chamberlain.

640 Squadron was a heavy bomber squadron operating Mk III Handley-Page Halifax bombers from RAF Leconfield near Beverley in Yorkshire.

Halifax Mk. III

Bradford was an air gunner aboard Halifax MZ492 of 640 Sqdn when it took to the air at 2036 on 2 February 1945 heading for an attack on the synthetic oil refinery at Wanne-Eickel, Germany. Just twelve minutes after take off the pilot reduced power and the aircraft was seen to bank steeply and crash into Lakes Wood near Lockington. Only one member of the crew survived.

The crew that night were as follows:

Pilot Officer Noel Sisley - Aged 20 from Queensland, Australia. Killed.

Sgt. J. S. Whitman - Escaped practically unscathed.

Sgt. Walter Jeffries - Australian. Killed.

Sgt. Thomas Gibson - Aged 21 from Bamburgh. Killed.

Flt. Sgt. Alexander Gray - Aged 21 from Aberdeen. Killed.

Sgt. Martin Delahunty - Aged 21 from Prestwich. Killed.

Bradford Dockerty is buried in Abingdon New Cemetery, Oxfordshire (grave IF.13). He is also remembered on the Woking County Grammar School roll of honour located in Christ Church, Woking.

Conan Frampton Carter was born in Norfolk in 1918, the son of William Frampton (an engineer from Plymouth) and Maggie Louise Carter (nee Turner). He was married to Gwyneth and lived in Caterham.

He died 29 December 1945 and was cremated at Croydon (Mitcham Road) Crematorium in Surrey.

Conan Carter is remembered on Panel 1 of Croydon Cemetery is also remembered on the Woking County Grammar School roll of honour located in Christ Church, Woking.
